What is IPO Subscription?

IPO subscription is the number of times a public issue subscribed on NSE and BSE. Issue is oversubscribed If IPO receives more bids than offered shares. Issue is undersubscribed if IPO receives less bids than offered shares. If Issue is subscribes 20 times than the allotment will be 20:1

What is Oversubscription and undersubscription in IPO?

There are four categories namely QIB, NII, RIL and Employee in which IPOs are subscribed. IPO subscription period for mainline IPO is 3 working days and for SME IPO, subscription period is 4-6 working days. Most of the time, IPO receives more bids than the number of shares they (company) offer.(Oversubscribed)

What is QIB in an IPO?

QIB are called qualified institutional buyers. Financial institutions, commercial banks, mutual funds, foreign investors come under the QIB category. They have 50% shares of the total issue size.

What is NII in an IPO?

NII are called Non institutional investors who can bid for more than Rs. 2 lakhs. NRIs, HUFs, companies, corporate bodies, scientific institutions, societies and trusts who can bid for more than 2 lakhs come under this category. They have 15% shares of the total issue size.

What is RII in an IPO?

RII are called retail individual investors who can not bid for more than Rs. 2 lakhs. NRIs, HUFs or any individual who can not apply for more than 2 lakhs come under this category.

How to determine how many times any IPO will get oversubscribed ?

It is very tough to determine as there are multiple factors to it. It depends on company fundamentals, issue price, grey market premium etc.
